Skin Booster vs Dermal Fillers

By: aestheticacademy.asia

What are skin boosters?

Skin boosters or injectable moisturisers are intended to make your skin look and feel better, without changing the shape, volume or muscle movement of your face. Injectable skin boosters are becoming one the most favoured treatments nowadays, thanks to its zero downtime, great safety profile and fantastic results.

Skin boosters are generally hyaluronic acid based solutions that are injected into the deep dermis or hypodermis to improve the appearance of skin on your face, neck, décolletage and hands.

Hyaluronic acid solutions are potent natural moisturising factor and are clinically proven to stimulate new collagen formation and increase elastin levels that have been depleted due to age or environmental factors. Some Skin boosters are also formulated with antioxidants and vitamins to promote new collagen and elastin growth which results in healthy-looking, glowing and plump skin.

skin boosterBooster vs Fillers

Dermal Fillers focus on lifting, restoring volume and augmenting facial features. As the skin ages, the production of collagen and elastin slows, which gives skin a loose and supple look. They are injected into the deep fat compartment when it comes to restoring volume or to enhance lifting effects. On the other hand, they can also be injected into the hypodermis or superficial layers when we need augmenting effects such as nose or lip augmentation.

They are a versatile treatment that can be beneficial in:

  • Restoring volumeand facial fat loss
  • Reducing facial lines and wrinkles
  • Contouring or reshaping facial features
  • Midface augmentation
  • Filling volume under the eyes
  • Nose, lip and chin augmentation

The results of a single treatment can be noticeable instantly and can last up to 12 months.

Skin boosters, on the other hand do NOT restore volume or augment facial features. They are injected mores superficially into the deep dermis or hypodermis. They do not have any volumizing or augmenting effect like Dermal Fillers, but they certainly have a refreshing effect on the skin. Skin Boosters are helpful in:

  • Improving skin hydration
  • Improving skin quality (texture, elasticity and firmness)
  • Lessening the appearance of acne scarring
  • Reducing fine lines
  • Improving imperfections of the skin

The Downside?

The downside, however, is the multiple needle pricks all over the face. Can this be overcome? Yes, I prefer to use a cannula from a single point of entry from the malar mound to reach almost half a side of the face. Though it sounds simple, it is not so. Being superficial, the cannula can sometimes spread into different layers and cause more pain when the idea is actually to minimize pain. Also, the patient may end up with lumps if injected superficially. For me, pain management in aesthetics is crucial, so if you plan to do skin boosters, use a single point of entry with cannula, but make sure you can navigate the cannula without any untoward effects.
